Open to all AC members, aged 18+
WHAT IS IT?
With the rising cost of living, many actors are choosing to trade in the flexibility of temp, retail or food service work for the steadier and more lucrative day job. But how do you translate your skills as an artist to an office setting? In truth, we actors have the skills desired by employers -- adaptability, attention to detail, time management, self/company promotion, ability to learn and memorize quickly, skills to collaborate on teams and work with many kinds of personalities -- all we need to do is showcase them in a language that makes sense.
HOW WILL IT WORK?
In addition to some resume formatting basics, we will walk through how to translate your seemingly niche theatre experience into marketable office job skills - both on the resume and in the interview room. Please bring something to write on -- paper/pen or your laptop/tablet. Got a resume already? Bring it in for review.
WHAT LEVEL ACTOR IS IT FOR?
This workshop is for open to any actor (18+) who is looking for steady 9-5 work to help pay the bills and support their artistic endeavors. Please keep in mind that actors seeking on-camera work will need to find a day job that still allows them to take half- or whole days off at a time in order to travel to auditions/locations and in order to meet a film schedule.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
How to write a unique resume that stands out and meets employer expectations, where to look for office jobs, what to consider when applying and accepting offers, and how to change the narrative in the interview room to make yourself stand out.
AMANDA ZEITLER is a DC-based playwright, actor, and general Jane-of-all-theatre-trades by night, and private recruiting coordinator by day. She received her MFA in playwriting from CUA in 2015 and has been working full time in cushy office jobs ever since because she really likes her health insurance. Her goal is to help her fellow artists land similar gigs so they can worry less about paychecks and more about their art.
